This Toronto Star article claims that bell is on the verge of offering an unlimited wireless data plan for $7/month. It seems that they may be a little scared of the Apple iPhone which Rogers will no doubt carry. Details report that the offer will be available to users of the new HTC Touch phone which is much like the iPhone. They are both touch screen, both have virtual keyboards, but the HTC Touch lacks WI-FI.
We can only hope that this plan will spark a competitive price war that we so very rarely see here in Canada. Apparently, it sounds like this plan will only cater to Touch Users and not PDA and Blackberry users. Compared to US prices, we are very far behind and can only dream of the day that our wireless plans hit parody like our dollar has.
Hey Damian,
Nice to see that you’ve picked up on our story. The $7/month plan is indeed a go for Bell Touch users, but everyone else is being shut out. Canadians are still being raked over the coals and now I pray for the iPhone to arrive sooner than later to force all the players in the telecom business to get more competitive. Apparently, Bell has got a lot of angry customers wanting to know why the data plan is a Touch exclusive and they’ll have to have some good answers soon.
Cheers,
Jaime
